When I was in high school my father had a heart attack that resulted in a couple bypasses. He was faced with a dilemma that many people have to face. Lose weight quickly, without strenuous exercise. (This incident started me on my journey of exercise and diet.)
Until my Dad was strong enough to start walking there had to be something he could do.
I asked the only adult I knew who knew anything about fitness. My Aikido Instructor. He taught me the Chi Pump. This Chi Gung exercise is meant to raise your Metabolism with hard strenuous work.
The Chi pump is a deceptively easy Chi Kung form. Stand with your feet under your shoulders, slightly bend your knees. Let your hands hang gently by your sides. Imagine you’re a stick stuck in the ground. Every movement starts at the base of the stick and radiates up to its end. “Stir” your body in a circle with your feet rooted in place, your head drawing a circle in the air. The “movement” is subtle- anyone watching you might not even notice that you’re moving!
Rotate from your ankles nine times to the right then nine times to the left. Breathe!
This Chi Gung exercise is meant to raise your Metabolism with hard strenuous work.
Do this at least once a day
Dad actually tried it and it worked for him. He got back on his feet and back to a regimen of daily walking.
Try it for yourself.
